Impressionism in France:
A Look at the Importance of the Revolutionary Art Movement and the Artists who Shaped It
This B2 level class, taught in French by Dunbar, is a spring semester course that will meet Thursdays at 5:00 PM beginning January 29.
Students will explore how key Impressionist artists–such as Monet, Degas, and Cassatt–broke away from traditional artistic conventions to capture fleeting moments of everyday life. The course examines the influence of urbanization, technological advancements, and the rise of middle-class culture on the movement. Through lectures, discussions, and short videos, students will discuss different artists’ works to understand their varied and experimental techniques with color, light, and brushwork to convey atmosphere and other motifs relevant to the period.
