Description: This class invites students to discover West African cinema from the

1960s, a period marked by decolonization and the emergence of a distinct African

cinematic voice. Through films such as La Noire de..., students will explore how

directors used the medium to grapple with questions of identity, independence, and

post-colonial society, while building their vocabulary around film and history.
